MURAL UNVEILING
We would like to invite you to the unveiling of ‘Rough Gemstones’, a 47 metre mural by Silvia Lerin at 2pm on the 23rd October.
Please RSVP your attendance to bidoperationmanager@lutonbid.org by the 18th October.
With its vibrant colours and intricate geometric layout, the mural celebrates the city’s multicultural brilliance, symbolizing 225,262 individuals as gemstones in need of recognition. Embracing the brutalist architecture’s unique charm, ‘Rough Gemstones’ is set to illuminate Luton with its message of opportunity and unity, showcasing the city’s true shine waiting to be polished.
The Mural has been sponsored by Luton BID, with support from Luton Point, Luton Borough Council and the Culture Trust.
We look forward to you joining us at Hat Gardens to celebrate the rich heritage of Luton at our new masterpiece in the heart of town.

Works begin on the 8th of July!
The “Rough Gemstones” mural project, a transformative public art initiative led by internationally acclaimed artist Silvia Lerín, will commence its next phase on July 8.

The mural design is available in four possible colour combinations.
You can find the display either at Central Square (next to Starbucks) or at Melson Square (opposite The Body Shop).

Artist Silvia Lerin awarded the Open Call 'Public Art Commission' for Luton Town Centre
The international artist Silvia Lerin has been awarded the Open Call ‘Public Art Commission’ for Luton Town Centre. Her mural proposal titled ‘Rough Gemstones’ represents the hidden potential and diversity of Luton. It is set to spread a message of opportunity and unity, illuminating Luton with its vibrant and meaningful artwork.
