Thrilled to have been awarded the 1st Prize at the ‘XXVII Premi Ciutat de Manacor d’Arts Plàstiques 2024’ in Palma de Mallorca for my sculpture Copper Hair! Feeling incredibly grateful!

Check out the work here on my website www.silvialerin.com

‘Copper Hair’ is an abstract representation of ageing hair—when it loses the shine and smoothness of youth. The piece is painted on canvas and sewn onto copper rods, blending textures to create a striking visual.

It belongs to my project ‘Copper Skin’, which explores how copper, during its oxidation process, develops a unique green patina. This transformation evokes the appearance of a metallic epidermis. For me, this process carries a deeply poetic resonance, akin to a Phoenix’s revival: rather than symbolising deterioration or decay, rust becomes a source of beauty and renewal.

This metaphor reflects a very positive and transformative moment in my life, where I see beauty in change and growth.
